Volunteer Coaches Needed!

"I think a coach should definitely, when they make the commitment to coach, realize their role as a teacher.  And everything they do, everything they say, is soaked up by these athletes, in good and bad ways.  So they really need to be a good role model in their direction."  - Dot Richardson

Volunteer coaches are the cornerstone of our softball program, without whom the program could not exist.  We welcome all interested parents with a desire to help out, regardless of your level of coaching experience or even knowledge or the game.  Less experienced coaches will be teamed with veteran coaches to ensure the best possible experience for the players and the coaches.  If you are interested in coaching, please identify yourself as a head or assistant coach when you register your daughter.

Those interested in coaching must pass the Rutgers "Sports Awareness For Educating Today's Youth" course, offered at no cost to volunteer coaches by the Lincoln Park PAL.  If you wish to be a coach, assistant coach or even a once in a while helper you must attend the Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. course.

This course:

  • Helps coaches minimize the risk of injury to young athletes

  • Provides information about fundamental coaching concepts which enhances volunteer coaches' effectiveness

  • Provides partial protection from civil law suits

To be on the field, you MUST take this course and have a Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic Certification Card.  Classes are scheduled by the PAL prior to the start of each season and is also offered by a number of local hospitals, although a fee is charged by other entities offering the course.

Conduct

It is a privilege and an honor to be chosen to coach a Lincoln Park PAL sports team; with this comes an obligation for a coach to act in an appropriate manner.  A coach is a teacher, a leader, and a role model for each player under his/her supervision.  Coaches work in conjunction with directors and officials to support the athletic program in all policies, rules and regulations.  To remain a Lincoln Park PAL coach in good standing, each coach must continue to conduct himself/herself in a way that encourages good sportsmanship, safety, and the development of the young athlete.

All coaches must sign and submit the "Coach’s Code of Conduct" form.

Coaching youth sports is a fun, exciting, and fulfilling experience and will leave you and your daughter with years of great memories.   Please come out and make a difference in the lives of your daughter and her teammates.
